Troubleshooting Negative Water Depth Errors in a Modified EFDC Model

hello,
I am currently working on a river analysis project and would like to seek your assistance regarding an issue encountered during EFDC model execution.

To analyze the same river, we utilized a model from a different project (Case01_og).
In the original model (Case01_og), we modified the boundary conditions and input data (e.g., meteorological, water quality, flow, and water temperature), but did not change other calibrated parameters.

After running the model, we observed that water did not flow in the uppermost section of the river and in one of the tributaries. Additionally, around February 12, the model stopped running due to a negative water depth error.

We attempted to resolve the issue by editing the elevation values in the dxdy.inp file, setting the water depth to 0 m on both levees. We also tried applying a depth of 0.1 m to the dry areas. However, both approaches produced the same result (Case01_v2).

We also modified the ISDRY parameter in the EFDC.inp file from 99 to -99, but the negative depth error still occurred and stopped the model.

The attached Case01_v4 model is a version of Case01_v2 with modifications to the timing options:

Time step was changed from 0.772 to 0.0772

Safety factor was changed from 0.85 to 0.7

Case01_v4 is the only model that showed some meaningful changes.

We would like to understand why the model (Case01_og), which worked without issues in the previous project, is now producing errors in this modified model.

ps.
As I’m unable to upload the file here, I will send it via email to the address provided on your website, using the same subject line.

We never received a model from you.
