Hi EFDC Explorer Community,
I hope everyone is doing well! I am currently working on a flooding vulnerability assessment and was wondering if there is a way to extract or view the maximum water depth and water elevation values from a simulation period from every cell of the Grid. If extracting this data directly is not possible, is there at least a way to calculate it within the GUI? This information would be incredibly useful for creating the necessary maps for my assessment.
Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to your insights!
Hi raulosoriomorillo,
To view the maximum water depth or water elevation of the EFDC model output, you can open the 2DH View and then add the Water Depth or Water Elevation layer into it. Then you go to a specific time (you define at this time you will get the maximum water depth) by moving the timing bar or using Ctrl+G from the keyboard. Now you select the water depth/water elevation layer from the layer control, then right-mouse click on it, select the Export to … option, select the file type (e.g, shapefile), put a filename, then click the Save button.
Thank you for your help! I appreciate it. Can you confirm that no further action is needed to select the maximum values? Are the model results by default the maximum depth or elevation? Also, how should I define the model settings to get the maximum water depth at a specific time and cell?
Thank you!
Hi Raul,
You can view the water level of model cells either in water depth or water elevation. You see the water level time series of a model cell by extracting the water level (in water elevation). From this time series, you can define the specific time at which the model result achieves its maximum water depth or water elevation. The model simulation provides the water depth/water level of all model cells by default, not the maximum depth or elevation.
