EFDC stopped running prematurely and gave the message “MAXIMUM ITERATIONS EXCEEDED IN EXTERNAL SOLUTION”.
I had been using a time step of 2 secs, so I changed this to 1 sec., but this made little difference. I have got atmospheric inputs and before I set these up I waasn’t getting the problem. What’s causing this, please?
This problem is almost certainly a bad initial condition. Failing this it will be due to a bad boundary condition. Changing the time step will not solve this problem.
Is there a way to check what boundary conditions are causing the model to crash with the Max Iterations in External Solution error?
In my case I found I had left some gaps in the time series of inputs. Once I filled them in the problem went away
In my case, I fixed this issue by changing the safety factor to zero.
