Where in the EFDC model are the freely floating macrophytes? Is macroalgae equal to freely floating?
No, macroalgae are fixed on the bottom. There is nothing in EFDC directly dealing with free floating macrophytes at this stage. It is recommended to simulate this with an algae component. EFDC also has an RPEM implemented (a generic rooted aquatic plant and epiphyte algae sub-model).

Rooted plants are fixed to the bottom and extend up through the water column. In contrast, macrophytes are fixed to the bottom but grow and die in layer 1 only.
